Symptoms Can Include:
- Joint pain and stiffness
- Swelling & enlargement of the joint
- Skin irritation
- Can result in joint displacement and bone deformity
Relationship to Body Structure and Behavior:
- Heeled shoes will lift the heel forward
- Backward compensatory movement will cause the spinal column to tilt backward
- Unstable gait from the loss of proper heel strike causes more acuumulated force on the forefoot MP (metatarso-pharyngeal) joints
- The impact on the first MP joint upon landing with heeled showed will accumulate the breaking force, leading to arthritic change
- Outward tilting of the first toe becomes a compensatory change for the tilting of the body from the swing leg
Suggestions for Prevention:
Avoid tight shoes
Lift knee up while walking
Better be barefoot
Watch your step
