Migraine with Aura

Symptoms Can Include:

  • Blind spots and/or vision loss
  • Abnormal visual patterns like seeing flashing lights or zigzag patterns
  • Tingling or numbness
  • False sensory input: seeing, smelling, or hearing things that aren’t really there.
  • A feeling of weakness

Relationship to Body Structure and Behavior:
Auras caused by migraines are mainly visual symptoms, likely related to excessive contractions of External Ocular Muscles. The spasm of involved EOM likely causes disruption of retinal sensory receptor: lines or dots.  If multiple EOMs cause spasm/cramps, they can compress the optic artery, central retinal artery and central retinal vein. This may lead to temporary or permanent vision loss. People with convergence insufficiency are more prone to migraines with auras.

Suggestions for Prevention:
Avoid excessive near-point work and move head frequently during the near-point work to help eyes make adjustments between focal points and distances.
